Returning to the Cherokee Ranks...
Hi all,
I just bought a used 99 red XJ. Auto with 231 case.
I am a "returning" XJ nut. I originally had a '97 5-speed that I swore I'd be buried in. Many, many, many memories all across this country. It had a 2" Old Man Emu kit, 3.55 gears, ARB Air Lockers, discos, 31's, slip yoke eliminator kit, etc. Long story short, I had to sell it several years go because I became a contractor and needed a truck.
Fast forward to today: We just had our first baby, I'm no longer a contractor (at least don't need a truck) and we needed a 4x4 for awesome Minnesota winters.
So... I bought a '99 today with 144K. It's pretty much bone stock except for the 235's. Don't really know the history on it, so I'm going to keep an eye on the coolant level (it was at the bottom of the reservoir so that makes me nervous). Of course, the AT fluid and engine oil look brand new - typical used car dealers stuff, so I have NO idea if this thing eats fluids or not.
It's very sound mechanically. Has some dings (ok, dents) here and there, but otherwise in nice shape. The interior is fantastic.
I look forward to re-learning my way around my beloved XJ. I plan to keep it stock, as it's for hauling a baby around, not crawling up muddy hills.
Glad to be here.
Emrah
