The easier way is to look for the flat bottom. The one on the left with the flat bottom is a Chrysler 8.25. The one on the right with the round bottom is a Dana 35.

The Chrysler 8.25 on my rig was round, the vertical lip on bottom was purposely cut off and ground smooth. Not many of these out there, but they do exist on modified rigs.

How many of those would you guess there are? Even if there are 1000 of them, that's only .0357% of all XJs. He would have about a 1 in 2,800 chance of having one.
