Proud XJ owner in Hawaii
Hey everyone, I'm coming here to say hi and introduce myself as I do not know much about my jeep yet but I plan on spending lots of time here learning as much as I can to keep her running.
I got my first XJ in December 2010 and it was a 2001 2WD; with this I quickly realized that if I had a jeep I wanted something I could play in so I upgraded to a 1997 XJ with 4WD with a 3.5 RE lift with quick releases on it. It also came with front and rear olympic rock crawler bumpers and a CB radio. It'd got the d35 in front and a chrysler 8.25 in back riding on 32" Wrangler MT/R's.
My name is Kalsin and I am originally from Alaska but tearing it up in Hawaii for the time being. Here are a few pics from this weekends trip, if any of you live on Oahu hit me up, I'm always looking for new people to go riding with!

Howzit bra?? My wife and I lived on Oahu. I was stationed there- then after my duty we chose to live on the island like locals. I know that island better than the locals. You know half of them on the Gold Coast have never even driven to the Makaha side!!
You have to be VERY careful mudding in Hawaii. Ever try surfing in one of their spots???
I first lived up the road from Haleiwa. Driving through the North Shore to Kahuku is such an amazing drive.... Lots of trails too- but on the right side is military owned, to the left is private.
Also lived right on Ala Moana Blvd. right across the street from the Ilikai!
Damn I miss the scenery there!! You need to post some pics so we can be jealous!!
You came from Alaska?? Are u by chance military? Ft. Richardson has a detachment in Hawaii at Sch. Barracks.

Can you imagine how cool it would be to 4 wheel through the Pali cliffs. Anytime I drove up Pali Highway I would daydream of driving through that terrain!! Even the asphalt had moss growing on it, everything there is SOOOO GREEN!!!!

no, I wish though that would be sweet!! The lava rock (Big Island) is all surrounded by military training grounds. When you're driving through it REALLY looks like you're on the moon or something. It kinda sucks, you can only stay on the road that goes right through it because there are so many mortar rounds that never went off. There are signs posted everywhere so you don't go walking through the landmines. I am very proud to have served in the military, but I'm not proud we destroyed so much of the Hawaiian Islands with training exercises.
(actually now I think about it, the lava rock would probably just shred your tires... kinda like walking barefoot on coral)

I pretty much can surf(although I'm more of a bodyboarder than a surfer)/mud/whatever at all the local places because my mud bud (also an XJ owner) is a local guy with all the right hook ups
He can even get us into some of the locked up farmlands for offroading. As far as the trails on military property, you can go on them but if the MP's catch you you're in it. You have a get out of jail free card that works once back there, tell them that you're looking for some trail that starts around there (forget what it's called) and they will just tell you how to find it and that you're in the wrong area and make you leave.
Yes I am military, born and raised in Alaska and then joined the Navy to see the world. So far it's taken me to Japan, Thailand, Hawaii, Chicago, Florida and Washington and that's all 2 1/2 years in.
The lava rock is for the most part EXTREMELY rough on your tires. Imagine driving on dull razor blades. I've wheeled on it a big but you've got to BARELY move if it's anything other than flat because some of the edges are still razor sharp and will slice right through your tire if you hit it with any amount of force.
My buddy tried taking his pickup up the other side of that rock and it sliced his tire wide open, he hit it going about 2-3MPH.
