Hi,
I have always wanted a Jeep and finally scored big time!

I acquired a "non-running" 90's project Jeep this weekend for $350

We were working on an engine swap at a rental shop w/my friends and the owner of the work space came over and asked if we wanted a Jeep for our next project. My friends were all too broke, but I had the funds and decided to get myself a project Jeep

I also made a bet that I could get it running in tip top shape in an afternoon.

Thankfully the engine was in good shape, and after some contact cleaning, working out some grounds and a new ignition coil, we drove it around all afternoon and its now titled and registered under its new owner.

I also scored a free ignition coil out of the deal too

The paint is a little faded but it had some work done in an attempt to get it going, so Its also got a new distributor cap and possibly a rotor, new plugs, an oil change, and some spark plug wires, new battery, and some mystery wiring that I still have to clean up a bit. Interior is in good shape as well, especially for its age.

Works pretty good, there was a slight wine from the fuel pump and it did't seem to be starving for fuel, but I think that I discovered the culprit. Thinks to this forum I checked it all over and the little ceramic resistor seems to have gone out of spec (I was like really a resistor?). Its kind of close when its cool and wasn't to loud 1.8Ohms, but in the heat of the day after driving across town its way out of spec. I have seen this happen when ceramic resistors burn out. I am going to swap that out and hopefully that will be it. I guess we will see. Anyway the pump is quiet and with a make shift resistor load for it, it doesn't seem to be whining. A few more days of testing it in the heat with out any wining and I think I'll be set. It really runs well with out a hint of starving for fuel. Guess I could pressure test and volume test it to be sure.

I did order up some basic parts to limp me through the rest of this month into the start of school next month. I have a valve cover gasket and oil seal filler cap, a set of lift gate support struts, front door seal for my driver side door, and a new coolant bottle cap. Hopefully that will get me through the next month with out too much cash flowing out into it until I can catch back up.

Going to lift it stick some tires on it and give it a good paint job. The straight 6 is a real pleasure to work on so far, and has been relatively easy for my noob mechanic skills. Seems pretty rock solid for its age and mileage (180k) Transmission is pretty smooth as well. I love driving this thing around.

Sorry my excitement got to me while writing this post.

Thanks!

I tried quieting the fuel pump down with a make shift bundle of ceramic resistors to try it out today and it turns out that the fuel pump even with the correct resistance still made noise on the way in to work today. Pressure tested it and it failed horribly. Looked over the rest of the fuel system as well to ensure there was no other issues.

Time to replace the fuel pump...

I removed it it was everyones favorite brand... Airtex! A+ Looks brand new like it was recently swapped. I am dully impressed... Spoiled by Bosch I guess.

Also got an opened item Delphi pump from the auto parts store that worked for about 5 minutes at a time, thanks guys. I will have to swap that back at the store tomorrow. Third time is a charm?

Swapping fuel pumps should be a one time event...
