Which one to buy? Jeep Cherokee or Grand Cherokee?
Hi all. My name is Josh. I have been riding the fence for awhile now about getting a Jeep. Or at least some kind of 4x4 for camping and light wheeling in. With much thought I have finally decided to dive into the world of Jeeps! I have never owned a Jeep and know nothing about them other than them being quite reliable and fun for off-roading. Oh, and no too good on fuel economy ha ha
I've weighed out the options between the Wrangler, Cherokee, and Comanche. I think I've settle on getting a Cherokee because it will fit all of my needs for what I intend to use it for. My intended use is playing in the sand, snow, mud, being able to pull a utility trailer or small camp trailer, and camping. I don't plan on any rock crawling or serious wheeling stuff that is gonna beat it all to hell and such.
I have been told that I want to find a '91 or newer Cherokee as the older ones had over heating issues or something.
I've seen lifted Cherokees and Grand Cherokees in my area and I have taken a liking to them both. I hear the only difference is that the Cherokees are far better for off-road stuff vs the Grand Cherokee. I've seen some pretty decked out Grand Cherokees that look like serious business for off-road. I hear there is a difference in the 4x4 drive-trains that makes the regular Cherokees for preferable? Like the Grand Cherokees are awd all of the time the the 4x4 is biased and not so well for good off-roading? The only thing I like about the Grand Cherokee vs Cherokee is the v8 engine.
I guess my main questions to help me determine which one would be right for me would be:
What are the main differences between the two regarding the on-road and off-road capabilities?
Is there a better Grand Cherokee model that I should be looking for if I really must have the v8?
And what mods are more preferable drive-train wise?
Thanks for the advice!
