You oil pressure swith is the round silver thing with the wire going to it right next to your oil filter on the passenger side of the block midway back.

BTW, 40 PSI while driving is a good oil pressure. I believe your motor is fine. The new oil pressure sender switch should fix your problem.

Oh and welcome to CF from Buck in western Washington state. If you have any other issues with your rig please post them in the Cherokee Chat or XJ/MJ Tech sections.

Well, here's the deal. If the guy at the parts store said he sold you a "Oil Pessure Swich" and it doesn't fit in the spot by the oil filter on your Jeep 4.0 motor, then the parts guy sold you the wrong Oil Pressure Sender/Switch. The one by the oil filter is the only one on that motor. There is no other oil pressure switch anywhere on an XJ.

Take the old part with you so you can show it to him and get the right part Barney style. Choke your parts guy's neck, then make him do his damn job and give you the right part.

It's most likely the sender. The guage lasts much better than he senders do. When the sender gets gummed up and sends bad information the guage reads bad information.
