Hello, new here to the forum but I'm likely to be posting here a lot more (soon).

I'm looking into getting myself into a Jeep as a 3rd car for my wife and I to use moderately - in a few years I'll want to lift and enjoy off road.

The seller bought it at an auction. He works as a sales person at used dealer, is selling this on the side and was very up-front about that. My worry here (without having seen it) would be that there probably isn't much as far as service records. The first owner drove it sparingly, serviced it often and put only 60k on it. The second owner drove it quite a bit, and very little in terms of service recorded during that time (SEE BELOW).

Having never owned a Jeep or purchased a used car I'm very hesitant on this purchase. What are your thoughts on this/what do you recommend? ANY help is appreciated.

Welcome to cherokeeforum! Think you posted does not work for me BUT how do you know the 2nd owner did not do the oil changes etc. himself? If you looked at my Jeep it would be much worse than that but I have done it before I am supposed to most of the time. I would not worry about the miles, my last one had well over 300,000 on it. I wish I could see the pictures/asking price to help steer you a bit more.

It sure is clean... inside and outside. The price seems abit steep to me but I am across the country. When I bought mine, I paid a little over 4000 for mine but it only had 20,000 miles on it when I got it. Also had the tow package, skid plates etc I was looking for. I have bought two more since then, one a 92 for 1000 and one a 94 for 1000. I would take for a test drive- If something feels wrong, don't buy it. If it all runs good, the price is up to you. Check for the normal stuff on a used car- leaks, rust, knocking engine etc. It would be a great start!

You can always use those as bargaining chips too- "oh the tires are worn uneven- that means im going to need an alignment" etc

Thanks much! I lied a little - but just to get an honest answer. I've bought used, but i've never been very specific about what I'm getting into. Trying to do it right this time basically. That and I've wanted one for a long while, and plan on keeping it until it rots back into the ground along with my go-cart/civic.
