So here is the deal: I don't have an XJ yet, but I am getting one in a few weeks when the semester is over, due to my 1986.5 D21 2wd reg cab finally showing its age. Kinda sucks, however people space, a/c, 4x4 and airbags are now things to look forward to!
Anyhoo, I have been a long time lurker on here and on cherokeetalk and thanks to you all I have been fully convinced an XJ can withstand everything an (older) 4runner or Pathfinder can, without the 4runner and Pathfinder price tags.
Thus being said, i'll still be a Land Cruiser head as my dad has had one for the past 11 years and if it weren't for the Land Cruiser I would prolly care less about stock 4x4 cababilities and long life 4x4's.
So bear with me if I have any silly n0ob questions, although I understand you all don't bite
William
ps- If anyone is or knows somone who will be selling their cherokee in the northern VA area in about 4 weeks, PM me, I will be in the market then..

Well now that you mention it...lol I see you have a 97 Zj...has it given you many problems? I am really looking for an XJ but if I were to find a 97/98 zj with the 4.0 i'd consider it...I just see all sorts of mixed reviews. Are there more odds and ends that could (or have) possibly gone wrong?

Some have electrical problems with their ZJ's but mine hasn't had any such problems. I had to replace the trans, had the rear axle rebuilt, replaced the water-pump, starter, and battery. I love it though.
