Good evening everyone. I am, after a truly frustrating dealer experience this afternoon, the proud owner of a 2001 Jeep Cherokee. I am a past Jeep owner, having had a mildly tricked out 2010 JK that I got rid of earlier this year. I really missed the humm of mud terrain tires and the "I can drive through anything...almost" attitude that comes with Jeep ownership so I decided when I had a few dollars to go on the hunt.
I was limited by budget so my search shifted from overpriced Wranglers to the Cherokee. I had never driven one, ridden in one, or looked to buy one in the past so the last few weeks have been an adventure and a learning experience. I hope I ended up with a good one.
I ended up with a 2001 with 98k on the odometer and a clear carfax. All the buttons and options work, the interior looks like new and the white exterior paint is as good as you would expect for a car that has been used for 12 years. It has been lifted to make room for the 31 inch tires, but I can't identify the kit. It does ride well, and steering alignment is dead on so it appears to have been done right. Underneath is clean as a whistle with no signs of rust and the body is completely rust free - which impressed me for a car that spent its whole like in central Indiana.
So far I have replaced the headlights as they might have been originals and were pretty dim on the drive home, and I ordered some floor mats like I use in other cars. It only seems to need a new exhaust. It isn't loud yet but the muffler is starting to separate so its just a matter of time.
Anyway, I will end the novel here. I look forward to reading up and meeting folks on the forum and I welcome any suggestions folks might have for me. This is not a daily driver so I have some room to explore some real capability.
