About me;

I'm Jason from Green Bay, Wisconsin. Been happily married for two years and have a very active and inquisitive 18 month old that already has an interest in the mechanics of things. he has to turn wheels or push things with wheels, whenever he see's them.

About the '92 XJ;

I had purchased a '93 Volkwagen Golf a little more than a year ago for $700, put $400 into it, sold it for $720. NO car payments! NO major problems, just mainly belt alignment issues. I took the scrilla found the XJ on Craigs List, took it for a ride, kicked the tires, some rust fell off, gave the guy $520 for it. I registered it the next week, and had $20 left over for gas.

Since I've had it, I've been reading the forum and found many of the same issues that I am haveing and it's been VERY helpfull. Since it had all the rust, i trimmed the fenders, deffinately looks better. I do plan to lift it, so the trim will be functional. I had to replace some exhaust, because the previous owner did a fleet farm adapter and clamp job on it. and re-do the hangers, he used an acctual hanger, and a phone cord, WT$? I thought I smelt something burning. I knew the jeep leaked when I bought it, figuring it was just the oil pan and valve cover gaskets, and the rear diff seal. I just keep adding oil for now, the valve cover will be done for sure before the snow flies. The transmission, however, was also leaking, unknowingly. I was wondering why 2nd and 3rd were winding so loud. Turns out I ran it out of oil. I put some penzoil synchromesh in it, and sounded a lot better. since then it started to jump out of first. After trying to find the likely answer, both here, with mechanics, and the tranny shop. it was time for a new transmission. So, I found one on CL with a transfer case out of a '98 with 160,000 miles for $250. SCREAMING DEAL! I started putting it in on monday and finished last night. I'm not completely done, just have to pick up a clutch slave cylinder, because of the whole internal/external difference in years, and it should be running by Friday night. All of this in the last month, and still not turned away.

I guess there really such thing as "it's a jeep thing"

I would like to thank those who have helped me work on it this last month. (not that any of you would know them)

Zech, For welding my exhaust, and help with the fender and bumper trim. One of the best knife makers I've ever seen. http://zechmooredesign.blogspot.com/

Ryan and his parents, for letting me use their shop-sized garage, also Ryan for Helping with tranmission work. And for taking time away from his '68 Bronco project to help. Pics soon to follow.

My Ma and Pa, for watching Riley, letting me use their truck while mine is out of comission, and My PA for driving me accross state after I worked all night to pick up the tranny.

Chris, for helping with the tranny job, and providing the comic relief in the shop. And for taking time away from his family and hunting, for my project.

Ray, for picking up the slack where we all leave off, and for the sudden outbursts of laughter when when someone farted. QUIT SMOKING!

And most of all, My wife, Elsie, for putting up with my project, and allowing me to be away. For understanding my need to have a project.
