Default New Jeep owner

hello.

i just bought a 98 Grand Cherokee. 4.0 160k, dana 44! paid $580, but needs a bunch of small stuff. im 17 and kinda new to jeeps. eventhough a whole bunch of my friends have jeeps. cant wait to get pics w. everyone. but anyways just looking for info/ advice. i plan to get 31s and maybe a small 2-3 inch lift eventually.

98 Grand Cherokee. 4.0 with a D44, you sure? All I've ever looked at only had the D35 behind the 4.0. now there are some out there with the 8.25 in the rear. And IF it is a D44(unlikely) it's the alloy 44 aka HD D44, and the ring pinion and carrier are different than standard 44's and there in almost no lockers out there for it...

Good score on getting a ZJ non the less. Just double check that rear end cause I think your being miss lead...

GC's never came with an 8.25" Chrysler axle.

The d44 in a GC is a Dana44a. Extremely limited aftermarket support for those.

Welcome aboard from OKlahoma..

On a lift a 2-3 lift is cheap on GC's just need some spacers and maybe new shocks and you're good to go.

thanks everyone, sorry for taking for so long to reply, been busy.

idk if its a dana 44 or d35. it just says DANA on the rubber cover.

and yes okcjeeper thats what i plan, something cheap and simple b.c it will still be my DD

If you want to know what axle you have take a picture of it and we will help you this is a standard Dana 44 under a awesome tan waggie he he.
