New guy. Out with the old in with the "new"
Hey guys,
Just joined, figured I would do the usual and post up. Name is Ken, own an 89 XJ limited. Bought it when I was 15 for $200 not running. Spent the summer before I could drive fixing it up and attempting to make it run. It did, just barely and on hopes and dreams, but I drove the thing all through high school. When I went off to college, gave it to my sister who kept it running for another 2 years when she handed it down to my brother. After 2 more years of high schooler abuse it got parked for 3 or 4 years. My family was going to scrap it and asked if I wanted it. I of course said yes, hell this car taught me everything I knew about cars back in the day. Well needless to say its been sitting for some time still and needs lots of attention I fear it will never get. At 230K and all Michigan miles (not to mention 3 high schoolers) she is rough. She will start up and run if I ask her to, but shes not happy about it when I do.
Realistically I was going to pull the engine and rebuild it, go through the trans and all the drive mech, then clean up the body and interior and have myself a nice fun spare vehicle. Ive come to see that I have no time for such a task, as the body alone would be a Herculean undertaking. Not to mention I can buy one with less miles and a better body for as much as I would have to drop into it. So as much as it pains me to do so, I think she is headed for the heap. But my family loves their jeep (dad has a CJ 5 and 7, sister has a liberty, wife has a 2010 liberty) and I am still looking for a spare car. So Im currently shopping for a replacement Cherokee.
That’s the gist of my Jeep back ground. I also own a 2008 mazdaspeed 3 if anyone cares about that stuff.
