Default New Guy from Long Island

Hey guys! Just joined the site and I am really liking what I have read so far. I have been lurking around for a few days before I decided to register. Seems like there is a great community here with a lot of knowledgeable people.

My name is Jon and I am from Long Island. I have owned my Cherokee for 3 years now. I have done very little other than normal maintenance and an upgraded Rock-It High Flow intake. This is my daily driver, but gets driven on the beach 3-4 days a week when I go fishing. I am starting to plan some modifications now and I am a bit stuck, but I will start another thread for that.

I guess I will tell you a little about my background. I have a degree in Mechanical Engineering from NYIT. While in school, I was part of the SAE Mini-Baja competition team for 3 years. Not too sure how many here know about the competition, but basically we built a mini-baja car from our own design and took it to competition every year. Only major design constraint was that we had to use a 10HP Briggs motor. Everything was designed and built by us, the students. I learned how to weld, machine, and design while involved. I am hoping to be able to use what I picked up in college to make my own custom modifications to help my Jeep perform better on the beach.

There are a few places to drive up here. Not too many. If you buy the New York State 4x4 fishing permit, you can drive on at 1 section of Robert Moses State Park, Hither Hills State Park, Napeague State Park, and Montauk Point State Park. The requirement is that it is for fishing purposes only. If you buy a Suffolk County permit, you get access to a few places in Moriches and Shinnecock. There may be a few others for Suffolk, but I'm not sure since I don't have that permit.

I will take some pictures tomorrow if its nice out.
