New to the fourm
Hi everybody!
This is is my first time posting and joint any forums. I’ve been looking at getting my first Jeep! I was going to go brand new, but decided to go pre owned to start off. I’m planning to do some light to medium wheeling, and I’m looking to at the Cherokee XJ. My questions are, do I go with a 4x4 or can a RWD be fine? The Cherokee in question I’m looking at is a RWD that already has a lot of stuff I’m looking to do done already, but I feel like a Jeep without 4x4 is just a car? Am I right, can it still do off roading? Second question this vehicle also has 260,000 miles, not sure if Engine or transmission have been replaced or not. As I expect with any used vehicle you can’t predict what’s going to go wrong but does anyone have any experience with a vehicle with that many miles? I’d like to make a wise decision before I purchase it and cannot enjoy it when the pavement ends.
Sorry for for the long post on my first post but as you can see I have questions I hope y’all are able to answer!

Welcome to the forum.
Your question regarding 2wd vs. 4wd, and wheeling... that's pretty subjective as one person's idea of mild to med. wheeling and trail types can vary greatly from person to person. Unless you're looking at a vehicle trail head and it's posted with what type/level of trail it is.
There are a lot of people on here that have XJ's with well north of 200k. It all comes down to how it was maintained previously.
Also, when looking, you will probably find a lot more 4wd models than 2wd. Also make sure you physically eyeball it good. Checking for rot, as XJ's don't have a separate frame and chassis.
