New and don't even have one yet.
Ok, my name is Rich. I am 31. I am an unemployed (no suprise there with the way things are going right now) quality tech / maintenace tech with over 6 years of serious "back yard" automotive experience. I have built/worked on vehicles of diffrent arenas. Autox, drifting and drag racing. I have a pick up but it is a slammed 02 Tacoma that I used to drift and still autox race. I also have a drift car that is no longer road legal and I have not used it since over a year ago. I did a motor and trans swap on it. Car is a toyota rwd 4 door and I swapped in a turbo 4 cylinder and a manual 5 speed from a nissan. I can fabricate and weld steel...................
SOOOOOO, with all that said, it is finally time to try and make a deal with a buddy who has a beat up 91 Cherokee and trade my drift car for it. He will also have to give me money. Which means that money can then go into fixing up the Cherokee even more then what he will have done to it before we make the trade.
I have another 91 Cherokee that I need to go look at that is selling for 400 dollars with 219,000 miles on it incase my buddy ends up not being able to trade. Looks like a city driven truck so it should be pretty clean rust wise.
My buddy also has a 93 Grand Cherokee that he is buying for $100. It has a dented hood, bad front bumper and a bad transmission. I have been looking on craigslist.com and notice a lot of GCs have transmission issues. Why is that? I ask because we would like to fix that for him to drive after I trade for his 91 Cherokee.
My intentions if/when I get a Cherokee are to build it for dirt road use and up in Wharton State Forest in NJ (no deep mud). I want it to be fun and fast on dirt roads. Not looking to lift it or run bigger tires. I am thinking of running 15x8 Soft 8s with 4" back spacing and either a 235/75/15 MT, 29 x 8.5 MT tire or maybe a 30 x 10.5. Also might run a 1" wheel spacer in the front. I also plan on installing spring rubbers in the front coils to get the truck to sit level, trimming the stock front bumper, remove all flares and trim fenders as need be and maybe cut/notch the back.
Mechanical wise, what should I look out for?

I'd like to add this video.
That is the focus of how I want to build it but with a little less jumping in mind and 4wd instead of 2wd. I would just lift my Tacoma if I were to roll 2wd.
And please post links to videos like that if you guys have any.

here is a crappy pic of my friends 91 that I am helping him work on and might trade something for it.
Found out the front diff either has a blown spide gear or ring & pinion or something because the 4wd isn't working. The front drive shaft spings but the front tires do not.
