Looking to buy a Stock XJ to Build!!
Ive been searching around craigslist to buy my next toy and im looking for a very clean stock xj with low miles. Im usually a strictly wrangler guy and know good prices onwranglers. I have a good idea what xjs are worth but wanted other peoples opinion. I found a 01 cherokee sport with 75k miles at a dealership and i know itll be more expensive than buying from a private owner but im definatly not paying asking price i was gonna offer 4500 and go up to 5000 what would you guys recommend?

Personally, I wouldn't buy an 01 due to the issues with the flawed head casting leading to cracked heads......try to find a 99

I believe the 00s and 01s were the only years with head issues, maybe even just 01. I personally like the older models better, my 95 feels much roomier inside than my buddies 01, and I like the old school styling better. But that's just me.

Like I said, that's just my opinion. As long as the head on the 01 is ok when you get it, and you never let it overheat, than it shouldn't be an issue. Or you could always swap a 99 head onto it.

From my understanding late '01 models were OK. The bad head casting is 0331, you can find it stamped on the head itself on the driver side.

x2 on a 97-99 if that's the style you're looking for.
high pinion d30, no head issues, no coil packs. and be sure to look for one with the 8.25 rear axle. easy way to tell, don't buy with abs.
there's a really nice clean 87 chief in colorado with a d44 rear to boot for sale here on the forum.

I have 182k on a 0331 head don't let it scare you (the 0331-TUPPY marked heads are good to go). Keep it cool, any 4.0 for that matter and you'll be fine. In our neck of the woods I would look for the most rust free beauty you can find. You can fix all the other stuff easy but rust is a pita. That first ad you posted has been for sale for like 3 months or better so idk. The hood looks bent in the pic for starters. And then notice the drivers side has no badging but the passenger does. I would guess it got smacked and badly repaired.
