Just picked up a $750 winter beater 1990 Cherokee Pioneer
I just got this today because I needed cheap, reliable winter transportation here in CT. There are 181k on it and minor rust but the amount of replacement parts alone put into it recently cost over $1500 (he was a mechanic who did all the work himself). It seems like quite a steal and even comes with a CD player that cost $100-200. My only concerns are running out of gas because the gas gauge is broke (luckily the trip meter works) and the rear hatch button is gone so any one could wriggle their finger in the hole and pop it if they tried.
It's my first truck, let alone Jeep. I spent about an hour reading the forums and already soaked in a wealth of knowledge. It's too bad I'm not mechanically inclined, but luckily I have a good buddy who is. Hopefully it'll snow again soon so him and I can go mess around: me in the Jeep and him in his pickup.

Oh, btw, I was only looking for a car for a day when I found this. It was either this or a 1988 Honda Accord LX with 222k in similar condition for $500. For the extra $250 I'll take the inline 6, AWD, and boatloats of recent repair work over the 10 mpg I'd save.

Nice Renix Jeep. Can you send some better pics once you have the time. AWD means you must have the 242 transfercase. I personally like them better than the part-time cases (231) and find they make the Jeep more versitle. You may want some different tires before playing in the white stuff.

Welcome to CF from Washington state. Sounds like you made yourself a good deal. You'll be glad you didn't get the Honda the first time you have to drive to work in snow.

You will be FAR more than $250 ahead the first time the Honda needed any work done...
Everything for them is EXPENSIVE, hard to replace, and alot of parts stores don't carry parts for them...

nice haul! I just got a 1990 myself, and it looks like we have the same radio.
If you didn't already know, you can burn a cd-r data disc full of Mp3s and the deck will play it and show you the name of the songs.
congrats on getting your Jeep- you did the right thing.
