Default Just bought a Cherokee in Arizona

Hello all, I just purchased a 1992 5-speed Cherokee 4door with the 4.0, new clutch, new brakes and new battery. Well besides the horrible blue macco paint job it has 117,00 on it with no rust and I picked it up for 2,200, if thats a good deal....

Well I am having the following issues:
the key works in the ignition but will not unlock the four doors or the hatch. The key goes in but when I try to turn it to lock or unlock it, it feels like the key is going to break off.

The emergency brake does not engage. the button poped out with a spring and metal rod with a hook.

Also when I was driving in 4th and 5th gear for a couple of minutes at 60mph pule the vehicle began to shake extremely violent. The shaking wasnt so much in the steering wheel it was more like the whole jeep it self was shaking bad.

AC does not blow cold and there is a small leak when I stop driving from the front end and the fluid smells like water.

Any advice on my issues I would appreciate your advice.

Welcome from Oregon!

Not usre about the key , but, guess that someone changed the ignition key once before and tossed your door key.

E -brake probably you could buy a solid one from the junkyard. not sure those are readily rebuilt after the spring is sprung.

Sounds like you have the 'death wobble' going on. There are about a 1000 possible problems there. Search out Death Wobble and you will begin to see.

AC compressor probably needs recharge, they will still create condensation and drip if your trying to run it, I believe.

Alright went out to look at the jeep today and took the radiator cap off and low and behold it looks like mud inside. It is brown dirty thick water. Does this sound like I need to replace the radiator or give it a good flush?

Also underneath all of the rubber bushings appear to be pretty shot and worn. Where is a good place to get replacement parts such as the bushings, tire rods ect...

There is also grease on the front and rear diff covers. Is this just a leak that can be fixed easy or something else?

Thx

The radiator sounds like someone has put some stop leak junk in there. You could try flushing it out , but that gunk also gets into your engine and heater core. Gotta make sure you flush it correctly or you can wedge the gunk in there. After that if your radiator is leaking I would replace it.

Welcome from Surprise. If your in Az. there is a great place on 67th. Ave and northern called AMC Salvage. Find about anything for a cherokee you can think of. You should change the oil in your diffs. If they are milky. Expensive fix if you wait to long.

Im in Surprise as well. Thanks for the heads up on the AMC Salvage. Im debating between fixing it and selling it. The plus is the jeep runs smooth and shifts great. The bad is there are a few more problems than I anticipated.
