I thought that since I've done so much reading on here tracking down little issues on the XJ and being inspired by all the mods and cool jeeps on here that I'd go ahead and register and share my current masterpiece with you all.
It's fairly humble compared to some of the beasts I see on here, but it's mine and I like it!
Thought I'd share this with ya'll. I took the diamond deck channel off a pickup truck bed, and made some rocker panel covers out of it. I think they look good, and they help hide the rockers on the other side, which is kind of ate up with rust (as sadly happens to all Cherokees, eventually..)
Hah, yes, the rack is a bit high. I used some $50 van ladder rack gutter mounts, instead of the $200 purpose-built mounts that ride a little closer. I figure if it'll hold a big ladder on a full-size van, it'll hold my spare and some other junk. And hey, it looks "unique" I guess.
As for rocker panel rust, it's kind of like metastasized cancer in people, really. It's all about quality of life there at the end, not necessarily round after round of aggressive chemotherapy. So...going with that metaphor, I've chosen to treat this Jeep's cancer with cannabis oil and natural vitamin supplements!
Been a little bit, thought I'd update with some progress. I got my second-hand lift kit installed--the longarm kit was a little bit of work to install, but totally worth it. I've got her set up as a community response vehicle. Nothing too fancy or official, just plain folks in the neighborhood helping each other and keeping an eye out!
