Hi, from Southwest Va.
I currently drive a 1993 blazer that is nothing short of junk. A friend of mine has helped me find a 1989 jeep cherokee that has 244,000 miles on it that runs great for a really good price.I drove it and fell in love. It needs some work but is not bad. Long story short the blazer is going up for sale and I am getting the jeep. There is no comparison for quality between the two. I fear that I have become a Jeep addict! If there is a cure I do not want it. LOL! Look forward to learning as much as possible from ya'll.

Welcome from Roanoke!
89 is a great year, its a RENIX, so no CEL. You will need a volt/ohm meter and the RENIX FSM for all engine diagnosis. Other than that, if its from VA it should be relatively rust free. You may get lucky and have the D-44 in the rear but most likely its a D-35. Don't sweat the D-35, a 29 spline 8.25(97+) will swap right in and the junk yards are full of them around here. Don't pay more than $100 for one.
