Hi,
Greetings and Salutations! Long story on my screen name, but it follows me wherever I go. Thought I would introduce myself. Hold on it might be long winded. And, I do have a question or two at the end.
Apparently I like dirt. I know I like dirty girls, so this must be an extension of that?
I had been thinking of picking up a smallish 4x4 strictly for fun. Will not be a daily driver and wanted to keep the price point below 5k so that when I get the Arizona pinstripe, etc I wouldn't really care. Not looking to crawl rocks of fjord stream, not looking to mud bog, not looking to do much more than be able to run trails. I get my primary off road fix from a highly modified Baja Bug that has about 20" of travel at all fours powered by a Honda 6 cyl. (Pictures below in case you are curious)
Decided a Cherokee might be a great fit. Wanted basically stock or stock with 3" lift and 31" tires. After a few months of hunting CL, found a Cherokee. Picked this up a while back. As clean as it looks in the pictures but not overly clean. Does that make sense? Everything works and not cut up / beat to heck. Not even any rock rash on the sill plates. So, new to me. Looking forward to the trail adventure with plenty of room for the oversize dog, a few guns and an ice chest for the day's adventures.
Planning on some tasteful / minor mods and keeping it a long time.
Now, the questions:
The goal of this is a trail rig. Keep repeating that.
As mentioned above I have another ride for faster fun.
Base: 1996 Cherokee Classic w/ 31” and mild lift. Manual w/ 4.0. Currently has a minor leak at rear main seal, but at the end of 200k I am good with that and figure that will be tended to in a bit. Will also be replacing shocks.
My thought process:
1. Replace seats – I have a set of Corbeaus that I was going to use in my sand / desert car, but they did not work, and that was cool because I knew I could use them in a Jeep. So, will be installing Corbeau suspension seats.
2. Already talked to my fab guy, we will be making a minor interior roll bar / cage. Again, not real serious here, just in case of rut roh. The bar will have mount point for four point Crow belts – I am used to five points and just feel better with them when off road.
Beyond that I am open and would ask for suggestions on what to do next. I am thinking:
1. Front bumper with winch. Has a trailer hitch already @ the rear and I see no benefit on replacing rear bumper as hitch is drag spot anyways. Am I thinking straight?
2. Roof Rack
3. Rhino Line flares / rocker panels.
So what will get me the most bang for my buck and what order? What are some must haves? (Yes, I know, use the search feature you noob - trust me I will be reading a lot. Just wanted to introduce myself and figured now would be a fine time to ask.)
This will be kind of slow as the other ride is undergoing major upgrade$ right now.
Thanks in advance for the advice, and thanks for having me to your part of the web world.

Just brush rash - some of the desert bushes are very nasty. Very spiny too. Love to scratch the side of the cars on narrow trails.
Edit:
Here is a video of how to get them, in the baja, not the jeep, - Caution - I cuss on intercom - NSFW

Thanks, so far I have just been poking around. Learned a lot so far.
For example, as a direct result of this thread:
https://www.cherokeeforum.com/f59/co...heeling-11829/ I have changed my build "plans."
Almost did not see it where it is. Glad I ran across it.
