Default Hey guys

Hi all. new guy here. to start i have a 96 xj. i bought it about 2 weeks ago for 950. its a little beat up, one door wont open, but tonight i had the scare of my life. i was installing new visors i sourced for my local junk yard, and when i got to the pass side, i saw a spark, and wrote it off as static or something weird. so i laid the visor in the seat and went in the garage to get new batteries for my flashlight, and when i came back smoke was absolutely rolling out of the visor hole and from behind the glove box. i immediately jerked the battery cable, and found the pink vanity mirror wire, well not so pink anymore. it was melted quite a bit. so now the fuse is out and the radio hot wire is just sourced from the battery. so my question is why didnt the fuse blow? why was smoke pouring from behind the glove box? and do you guys think it would be ok just to cut that ire out of the harness or if theres a possible melted wire behind the gb, should i just learn to live without a dome light? thanks guys for letting me bend your ear. i love my jeep, and see a long future with it.

How many amps is the fuse? Could have been replaced with a bigger one.

X2. I'd check the harness for any burned, brittle, or even soft questionable areas and replace them or the complete wire up to the dome light and be done with it.
