Hi: Two days ago, I turned the ignition switch in my 98 Sport Cherokee and I heard click,click, click but engine would not turn over. My husband placed a charger on the battery overnight and the next morning it was fine. Second time that day I tried to start it and it would start normally and die when I took my foot off the gas. This Jeep has the original battery in it so hubby managed to get it started by keeping foot lightly on gas and took it to a local auto parts store. Employee placed a battery tester on it and said it was fine but to bring it back for testing when the "check engine light" is on. CEL doesn't come on. I'm confused since the time was still set correctly and if it were the battery, wouldn't I have had to reset the time after hubby charged it? A new starter was put in two months ago. Right now it lightly strains to start and, at times, after initial start, the engine revs for a few seconds and I do mean revs. Sometimes it starts up fine. It never ever stalls while driving. Please help. Oh...........oxygen sensors have been replaced in past year. Do I need a bicycle? What could this be? Thanks, Mary

Since it's that old I'd replace the battery and clean the cables good before reinstalling them.
