Hello From SoCal
Hi everyone name is Luey.
I'm looking forward to learning all I can. My girlfriend is really interested in getting a JEEP Cherokee must be 4 door. I know nothing about jeeps.
and dont know where to start with reasearch. like what years are better than others i know i will get views from members who love older and some who love newer. we are going to start with a budget of about $1,500 to purchase a running vehicle, with not to much rust and dont reall care if its AWD but i wouldnt mind it.
we love camping and wouldnt mind going climbing in it. it will mostly be used for city driving with the occasional trip to big bear.
any help on starting would be great
Thanks,
Luey

Well IMO, 98 and 99 have to be the best years, a year after the body transition, and a year before the weak 0331 head. Plus post 97s(newer bodies) look the best. Best thing is gonna be to look around for a good month or two and find a good deal, dont let high miles discourage you as the 4.0 will run forever if its been well maintained. Personally 4wd would be a much, never really saw the point of making JEEPS without it. Good luck on the search, there are plenty of people full of knoledge and the are willing to help. Don't be afraid of asking questions and I hope you find a gem.

Thanks for your opinion. I will thak that into concideration. and will talk to my girlfriend about it. ultimately the decision is up to her since she will be driving it for a majority of the time unless we go on a trip then I will drive.

Hey Luey, Congrats in advance on getting a Cherokee. I have owned 2, 1991 Cherokee Laredo's, and they have been by far the best 4x4's I have owned. I use and abuse them, the last one was still running strong at 320k miles when I traded it in, so as they said, don't let high miles fool you, the 4.0L is monster. You should be able to find a pretty solid XJ for $1500, I bought the one I am driving now for 800.00 and have only done regular maint for the most part since purchasing it 2 years ago. Good luck and welcome to the Jeep family

I have had my 95 2-door for a year know. Just finishing up my lift. Wish I did more research before I bought it. I have had to do endless work on the worn out suspension, wheel hubs, leaks, rust, blah, blah, blah. haha
Go check out bleepinjeep on youtube. If you search through his videos, he has one he uploaded where he compares all the different years of the Cherokee, and the pros and cons of each year.
