Just thought I would post up, I am looking at getting a jeep in the next week or so. I haven't had 4 wheeled transportation in about a year and a half and now is the time.

I have been looking at a few and have it narrowed down to 2:

a) 2000 sport 4x4 with 138k for $4200,
good: it has been owned by a family for 8 years all maitnance has been done.

bad: the belt squeals on start up, it needs tires, and there was a lot of sand stuck on the bottom of the transfer case and oil pan.

b) 98 sport 4x4 with 140k for $4000,
Good: owned by a student here in town and has been well taken care of.

bad: body and interier are not as nice, It has been bumped quite a bit.


Both are the 4L and no rust or drips also both prices are just the asking price.

I am leaning towards A because of the 8 year owner thing and the maintenance records it also has the tow package. but the issue with the sand stuck to parts that could be leaking oil kinda concerns me.
