Default Hello from KY.

Recently decided to check out this site. Had a built FJ Cruiser (image that, one that wasn't a grocery getter/mall crawler) for about 4 years but sold it for a more gas friendly Scion xB. About a month ago I picked up an XJ and have been pretty happy with it. Should be a fun project.

So far the near future plans are Detours bumpers, swingout and sliders, AFe intake.

Once the Scion is paid off I plan to lock it up, D44's, 4.56 gears, Clayton long-arms, skids, etc... Nothing crazy but something comparable to my FJ.

Here's a shot of my FJ since it's rare to see them away from soccer practice.

I don't think the FJ will compare to the XJ if you do all that to it. Heck it wouldn't even take that much to make it more trail worthy than the FJ.

I have little to no desire to get in to a Toyota vs Jeep or IFS vs SFA thing but will confidently say I predominately wheeled with Jeep guys and kept up with them with no issues. The FJ gets a bad wrap but they are very capable if built right and wheeled by someone who isn't afraid of scratches and dents.

Either way, thanks for the welcome.

You will be the ultimate judge since you will own both. Be forewarned one you geaux solid axle there is no going back lol. There is a reason the Wrangler is still built on that platform.

I agree, the only way IFS will really impress the SFA crowd is when you dump a lot of money with a over built IFS and outside of Baja speed, it's a waste. Had I kept the FJ I would've SAS'd it but there's a point where you have it figure out your bottom line one spending. For me I was there and I was happy with it. SFA's are superior 9 out of 10 times which made me regret not getting an older FJ40 to buggy. My only gripe with the XJ so far is I wish it were linked in the rear. Easy enough fix and a small gripe but that's the one thing I've wanted so far. Also a full size spare would've been nice.

Although I've been surprised with how many Jeeps are now sporting the IFS. Granted Jeep isn't as "Trail Rated" as a whole as they used to be. The JK's are about the only new Jeep I'd want to try on the trail, otherwise they're either all too big or too watered down.
