Smile Hello from a Jeep newbie in Florida

Just bought my first Jeep yesterday, a 1998 XJ Cherokee 2 door: 4.0L, 5-speed manual, 2WD. 160,000 miles. It's in pretty good shape, except for the peeling clear coat, which I guess isn't that uncommon.

There are a few quirks, like a not-quite functioning a/c, and some strange transmission/clutch behavior, so I will be posting for some help in getting them worked out. Thanks in advance to anyone who can help me get up to speed get the kinks worked out. I'm not an excellent mechanic, but I have worked on my own vehicles for years, and am good at following instructions.

I hope to get this Jeep whipped into shape in the next few weeks, so that my son can drive it to school, and I can convince an anxious mother that it's road-worthy!

Looking forward to participating in the forum!
