Hello from an '88 XJ in San Francisco
When I turned 16 and became licenced, I purchased an awful little Fiat for five hundred dollars (a manual) and drove it here in SF. Needless to say, within a year, the clutch was destroyed and the car was worthless - so I bought a beautiful bright blue 1988 Cherokee Laredo 4WD V6 4.0 Litre from my grandmother, who had babied it since she bought it - and it's in fair condition. Oh- and I'll post a picture if so requested
Some minor problems, but overall it's a lovely car, and incredibly fun to drive, even now that I've moved out of the city itself.
I'm also looking for some information on how to put the factory-spec radio back in, as a piece-of-crap was put in in the 90s, and how to fix the light for the dash clock. Coolant tank, wiper fluid tank and pump, and drivers' side window winder needs replacing, but it runs just fine.
This forum is fascinating, and it's great to find fellow enthusiasts!

Welcome from Wisconsin. You don't want the factory radio back in. They sounded like crap, along with the factory speakers. how to fix the light for the dash clock? Probably an electrical failure (check it with voltage meter, when the dash is apart for the stereo) Coolant tank, wiper fluid tank and pump? Check in the local Junk yard. drivers' side window winder needs replacing? Pull the interior door panel off, pull the switch out enough, to check for power with a voltage meter first. They are notorious for breaking, along with the wires running from door to body through that rubber sleeve.
