Greetings to the community! My name is Jeff and I'm from the Twin Falls area in southern Idaho. I recently purchased a '93 XJ "base" model with the 2.5L 4cyl and 5 speed standard, my first 4x4 since my '66 Landcruiser blew up in '91... (18 years of taking care of family first!)
A short "back story"...
I was actually looking for a used import for my grandson to drive to school, and I happened to find the XJ at a small "mom and pop" used car lot, out in the back. It had been sitting for 2 years and they were unable to get it running so they just left it alone. The body is very straight, no rust and only a small dent in the passenger side rear door, easily fixed. It was undercoated and there was no rust out under the floor pan. The interior is almost showroom. Whoever had owned it previously took very good care of it. I bought it for a very reasonable price...
I had the engine turned over to insure that it wasn't seized up from sitting around and I trailered it home. Since then, I've put a battery in it, replaced the TPS sensor (error code in the ECM), IAT sensor (caked with baked on oil) and performed the usual tune-up stuff, dist cap, plugs, oil change, etc. I cleared the codes in the ECM as well. I need to replace both the drive shaft output seals as they are seeping and service the tranny and differentials. With 167K on the clock, the XJ still runs very smoothly and compression is 120psi across all 4 cylinders. It still doesn't start to my satisfaction which I think is fuel pressure related so I'm still working on a few things with the fuel system...
I need the XJ as a "daily driver grocery getter" but I'm ready to explore some Forest Service roads in the Sawtooths and Moonstone ranges too...
As for a car for my grandson, well, he's driving my '94 Eclipse....

I'd do something to clean the fuel system after it sat for so long. JMO
