it needs to be functional. I have two little girls. this truck will be a camping / day trip to the bush rig. im not too sure on my budget right now. checking into my options. I have had a wrangler in the past. and a few Chevys. never a Cherokee. any ideas would be appreciated.

With the right tires for the terrain these Jeeps do well even in stock form.
You could go with a cheap lift like a bastard pack, lift coils and shocks. Or step up to an actual kit. To fit 33's you are probably going to need at least a 4.5" lift unless you are willing to so some major cutting to clear them.

the rear looks a bit tight. not much room for tire to stuff. so 4.5 would be ok then. so , the rear can be cut a little bit?

so a 4.5 inch lift would have to be a full kit. with arms? stock arms would be too short? what's a decent brand? that won't sag too much over time.

Actually the 2dr is practically the same for trimming. All cherokees have a seam that is spot welded along the rear wheel opening under the flare. If you trim the rear you have to cut slits in between the welds then bend over the pieces. Mine has a rubicon express 4.5" with 31" bfg's and at full stuff i have to keep the wheels straight or it will rub. I did trim my front fenders but not a lot and my front suspension has a good bit of travel. I would suggest a kit because it is made to work well together. Although you can build your own system with various parts that can perform better than a kit just know what your doing. I don't know what your intended use is but you can build your lift to suit your needs. There is plenty of people that have assembled their own lift and works well for them. Ask around, numerous members of this great forum have done just that. P.s. Welcome, i'm sure you'll like it here.
