Welcome.
Buy one in stock condition if you can, check that the 4wd engages
Biggest issue to look out for will be rust.
It usually starts in the rocker panels in front of the rear wheels. The floor panels and cargo area floor are also common locations.

Agree with TimberWolf. These things seem to rust pretty bad. I have seen the floorboards completely gone. Also take for a spin and see how it sounds/shifts. Same as every other car for the most part. Also agree with buy a stock one if possible. Much better to fix one up then fix one somebody else messed up. Welcome to CherokeeForum!

87-90 are non-HO 4.0s
92 and up eliminate the front axle vacuum disconnect
late 99-2001 have a known cylinder head issue
96 was first year of OBDII but last year of old body style

any year will serve you well if has been taken care of, as said you'll want to look for stock, ideally grandma's grocery getter
