Hi and thanks in advance.
Yesterday I picked up my first Jeep! Which is strange considering how many cars, trucks, and bikes I've owned.
I think I got lucky with this one. It's a really well taken care of 01' with 132k miles on it for $5k. The first asking price was $7500 a few weeks ago. I offered him 5 because that was my budget, not because I didn't think it was worth 7. Anyway, Last Saturday he pinged me on FB and said since I was the first one to ask about it I could have it for $5k so he could get a more baby friendly car
I've been reading, and watching videos about the XJ, and of course all my buddy's have chimmed in on the good and the bad.
Pretty sure I'm going to keep it stock except maybe for a little suspension work and mud/snow tires for the 3" of snow we get here twice a year.

Just bought an 01 as well. Cherry with 97k. Sorry to burst your bubble but that head- the 0331 casting is prone to cracks and can be catastrophic. Milage does not seem to correlate with with occurrence. I will be swapping mine first thing. From all the research and videos, seems to be a day job in the driveway with a buddy and all required parts on hand. Buying mine from these guys https://www.cylinder-heads.com/. Many have used them without issues.
