First Jeep (1996)
Hi all! I'm hoping to be able to purchase my first jeep and i was wondering what you all think about this particular one. I am still waiting on more information, but this is what i have so far "I have a 1996 Jeep Cherokee for sale. I cleaned the interior, removed the seats, and scrubbed the carpet, cleaned the seats with a powerwasher and dried them out so they dont smell like mildew, Interior of the truck looks really good except the headliner. The headliner has been cut up and is sagging, I was going to just rip it out but its your choice. Engine has 130k miles, runs good, recent exhaust, truck runs good. Good tires, freshly painted aluminum wheels. 2inch rough country lift. Truck is a 2 door, 2 wheel drive which is fairly rare. Body is in decent shape, Rust above passenger side wheel well but it isn't terrible. Brakes have tons of life left in them. Only downfall is the transmission is burnt up so a replacement is needed. Ive found transmissions on www.Carparts.com for about $300 but I don't have the time to replace it as I'm working 3 jobs. Im flexible on the price, shoot me offers, the worst I can say is no. Ive looked it up and the rims and tires on the truck are worth about $400, so please don't offer me $200 for the truck because ill only give you the truck for that much."

Welcome,
If you know mechanics, $400 or $500 doesn't sound bad for that. You could probably find a tranny, tranfer case, & front axle for $600 or so and make it 4x4 cheap (bolt right up). If the body is solid 131,000 isn't bad milage if it has the 6 cylinder.
Be prepared to turn wrenches..
Good luck

Almost all of my questions have been answered now haha, is there any place in particular that has reliable used transmissions? Also i heard a reply from the owner about the trans and he said " the transmission doesn't work but the engine runs. The transmission has lockoutso once you startit and shift through the gears it takes a minute for the transmission to slip back into Park so you can restart it." honestly im not a car afficianado, so can someone reiterate that for me haha
