Default first 4x4 or jeep for that matter.

just graduated from gunsmithing school and the parents bought me a jeep cherokee sport. its a bit rough, the cat seems like its rusted out as well as the muffler. the paint job is a bit rough but i could give a about that. really i just want to know what you guys recomend as far as maint for a new old jeep goes. it has 185,000 and i plan to do the oil and flush radiator my self but for someone who is reasonably mechanicly inclined would taking care of the transmition something i would want to do myself. i am assuming it needs some new fluid and probably a filter but i have no idea. huh also i have no idea how to drive a 4x4 the last time i did it was in the army when i was a kid. well any tips about what i should do to get this beauty up and running like im told they should would be much apreciated

Welcome to Cherokeeforum! You've pretty much covered the basics as far as maintenance goes. The tranny filter is a breeze, just drop the transmission pan and replace the filter, use the new gasket with the kit, tighten her down and re-fill and your set to go! Remember to check the fluid level at running temp with the truck running. I'd flush the differentials and t-case while your at it.

Anything else just ask!
