Just wanted to say hello to everyone, I finally picked up my first XJ after 35 years of drooling over them

I have done so much research, and looked at least 14 in my area. All were rusted or just beat on, I wanted something clean to build into a sleeper of sorts...

Then this one popped up - I went against all my plans of staying 99 or less, wanting the 8.25 rear, hp front, no power windows if I could find it etc.

Ended up with this 2001, 60th anniversary! I am very excited and have to read up on whether to rebuild while it is running great or swap in a lower mileage motor.

Either way, here are some pics!

Looking forward to all the great advice and hopefully contributing a lot down the road.

Welcome! Looks like a nice clean platform to work with. How many miles? What are your plans?

If the engine is running nice don't rebuild. However, I would upgrade the cooling system asap to help keep things cool and possibly avoid the 0331 head crack.

that was my big fear, I am going to get everything cleaned up and then figure out if the head has been swapped or if I will rebuild and put on the 7120(?). It has 234k miles on it but runs better than any of the approx 130k xjs I checked out. The PO was pretty meticulous and seemed trustworthy so we will see. I just want to get everything fresh under the hood and suspension set up. I am thinking a few inches max to keep it looking somewhat stock to the untrained eye.

After I get everything tuned I am sure I will find a whole list of little things to take care of. PO did say he replaced all the steering linkage and bushings last year and it shows...

If it has 234k, it was either replaced under warranty, or it's one of the lucky few 0331's. Keep putting miles on it! How awesome would it be to put 300k on it?

Either way, sounds like you have a good plan. You came to the right place. Good luck!

300k would be a lot of fun I am taking it by a very well referred 4x4 shop here in North Chicago for a solid once over before I load up the wife and baby on a camping trip. Hopefully not too many surprises!

Thanks for the gracious welcomes and all the advice
