Default Diesel or gas motor

Hey guys question I'm starting universal technical institute for diesel mechanic, I wanted to go originally for auto mechanic that way if my 01 jeep broke down I can fix it. I was told diesel was the way to go because it's everywhere and its job security and more money then auto mechanic. What's your thoughts on this?

GOOD diesel mechanics, sure. Like good electricians and good welders. ****ty diesel mechanics from generic schools are kinda like web developers.

Also, if you're seriously interested in the field, you'd better learn how to spell the name of one of the largest manufacturers properly.

True, but technically you would have to have hands on for all those categories of mechanic and also new technology comes out for all types of vehicle. The good thing about my school is that since is diesel mechanic and if they come out something new for diesel down the line I can go to school for free and learn that technology.

I went to Wyotech for diesel tech about three years ago and when I finished I could barely get interviews anywhere and when I did I always got turned down because I "had no real shop experience." I get that I hadn't actually worked in a shop before school but you can't get the experience if no one will give you a chance. Now I work as the head lab tech for a company that makes HDPE fittings for gas and water lines and couldn't be happier. I hate that I spent so much money for schooling I don't even use but I did learn a lot and don't regret it....too much. Just something to keep in mind, when they say "job placement" it's not always "guaranteed." Btw, rebuilding those manual transmissions (13spd, 10spd, ect.) is kind of a pain, unless you have little hands. I had no problems.

Sorry for the rant!
