Default CNY'er Newbie. what should I expect?

hey what up all?!
I just bought a 94 Cherokee this afternoon. Its a 5 speed with 97k on the clock.... I got it for 1150 which i believe is pretty good. It needs a little TLC but i have time and tinkering skills to do that (and a junk yard a few miles away). I live in Central New York (Syracuse) and there is a large jeep community here (CNYJEEP.org) but i want to bring my questions to you. I just drove her home a few hours ago and put a new U-joint in it (surprised i even made it the 40 miles home) It has recently been tuned up and im going to get some pads and rotors for it.... But my question is, What kind of problems can i expect from this rig? I know every vehicle has its perks and you guys must kno them. I plan on getting muddy but this is my winter rat. So i have no intensions of long travel kits and all them goodies, just some 31's i have laying around. Also... (dont hate on me for this question) What the hell is part time 4WD?

Thank you fer your time.
I will post pics when i can get my ol ladies camera.

Howdy, welcome!
Good deal, especially on a 5 speed with low miles like that, can't answer your first question, sure someone will show up and do that for you, but..

in regards to part time 4wd though I think I can answer that.

you got your main mode, 2 wheel drive where only the rear tires are spinnin. and then when you're goin off the pavement that's when you're engaging your 4wd, low or high depending on your situation, so, it's only used part of the time.

I see. I figured thats what it was all about. I didn't know if it was like some bootleg traction control...It just confused me when the light showed part time... Any other 4x4 ive owned (k1500, toyota pickup, 93 dakota(my fav)) just says 4x4 once its engaged. Well thank you for the response. Ill be posting pics once i dig into this project winter rat!

4WD part time & 4 lo is for off road use only. The only time these ranges can be used on hard surface roads, is when they are covered in snow and ice.

Welcome! I am located about an hour south of ya in a little place called Vestal, or shall I say Binghamton. and you got a STEAL on your XJ. A 5spd with under a 100k for that price puts stealing candy from a baby to shame, unless this TLC that it needs is alot...
Did you happen to join CNYJEEP.ORG as well? If not, you should! Great community of all kinds of Jeeps

Anywho, to run your 31's, get a 3"-4.5" lift from like rough county, rustys, Rubicon Express etc.

I am also curious to see what your XJ looks like!
