Default Cherokee Sport - Looking for Help

Hi,

I'm looking at Jeep Cherokee Sports, and I'd like some input as to what major problems I should be on the lookout for as far as frame/body that is known to be problematic, as well as motor/tranny.

I think I have read about floorboard rust under the rear seats or something to that effect... and some model years with heads that can crack.

Any help so I can know what to look for and avoid would be great. Thanks for helping if you do.

EDIT : Do the sports have the same ongoing brake problem that the grands are documented to have? I don't feel like putting new brakes on every 15,000 miles.

Welcome to the forum. Not sure about the brakes, but I don't think they have the same problem.

Welcome
Don't know of any brake problems.
I think '00 and '01 are the years with the heads that are more prone to crack.
Get underneath and do a serious search for rust.

Anything past 99 comes with a Low Pinion (weaker) dana 30 front axle and the 0331 head (prone to cracking). The 99s come with more power than the years before. Check for rust in the floor pannels (under your feet) that is the most common rust spot. Check for general leaks etc. just like any used car. No brake issue that I have heard about.
