I have a 93 YJ that is currently in pieces, not running, and recently sold my TDI. So I bought a 89 XJ as my new DD and life has been great so far. Looking to upgrade and mod it for some sweet offroading and a new paint job.... Any Central Texas folks out there?
what did you have for a TDI?
i have a 2013 golf highline wagon TDI. i just got my buyback option last week. gonna take the 6500 bux and maybe trade it in for a new audi a4 wagon
I had a 14 jetta. I miss her dearly, but when they offer you MSRP from when you bought the car in 2014 after you put 70,000 miles on it....... It would have been irresponsible not to take it. I originally bought it because I was commuting 100+ miles a day, but have recently moved south and now I am sub 10. So there is no reason for me to own it.
Thus XJ and paying off some student loans. I am keeping my eyes open though. Regretfully, I live across from an Audi dealer so the temptation is always there..... LOL I could use something fast again, maybe the xj needs a v8.
Man, those old TDIs are awesome. I would have kept that one haha as far as color schemes, I was thinking lime green.... probably a little ridiculous. But I got the paint chip samples from Monstaliner. I like their predator green and monsta liner durability is fantastic The only reason I don't really like the black/tan is because it is a total matte rattle can job from the previous owner.
If you do have a tdi I would totally wait until the end of the buyback period before you turn it in. I think you can ride 12k a year until the end of 2018 and still get your full $$$. I had an outstanding loan against it and was sick of the car payment.
yeah, i have until the end of december 2018. i can trade it in and they will give me full bluebook value and no tax on the new car, as well as a cheque for 6500 coming soon. or i can keep my car, and they will fix it at no cost. but i'm not worried about that as we don't do e-testing this far up north, and i want to put in a malone stage 4 turbo/tune.
monstaliner is pretty serious stuff. should help it last a lifetime. but if you gotta do any metal work, grinding that stuff off is a chore. but it will be tough as nails. should look pretty good too, and it will become yours, not the previous owners still.
capnjack - I think I may have kept my 2001 if it had been a manual... mine was an auto and painfully slow even with a tune. Plus it was getting close to the 2nd timing belt change and I didn't want to try to tackle that myself.
The way I look at it I traded something that I couldn't work on that was going to need major repairs for something that needed lots of smaller stuff that I could handle. I have really enjoyed getting to mess with the XJ.
caged - I am definitely happy with my buyback. I was ready to pull the trigger on the Malone tune before this happened. There was some places down in Michigan that would do the tune, a full cat back exhaust, get rid of the DPF, and the egr for under $2000USD. Which would have made the MPG go wayyyy up.
I was lucky the XJ has near 0 rust on it, thanks Texas. There is some surface run on the underside near the trans, but the rockers and everything else are rust free. My YJ was so bad the frame was rusted through in places and I had to do an entire swap on it, so I due for a none rusty vehicle.
itsrog - That makes sense. A can see a non stick one not being nearly as much fun. The Xj is the first auto I have ever owned and I am understanding why torque converters suck LOL
