I picked up my first Jeep last week, a 99 Cherokee Sport. I must say that I seem to have become pleasantly addicted to it. Spent a good part of the weekend washing and detailing it and planning to do some maintenance this weekend.
I do not have extensive mechanical experience other than basic maintenence and had a great experience with another Jeep owner I had just met. Had the check gauges light come on and a loss of coolant. Took the rig over to autozone and the fella there was a Jeep guru and readily diagnosed a stuck closed thermostat and malfunctioning temp sending unit. Being about 30 miles from home with no tools, and concerned about overheating he offered to help me out in the parking lot. He brought out some tools and we began to swap out the parts. 20 minutes later I was set to go and he did not want to accept any money for his efforts. I forced a $20 on him and extended great gratitude. I feel blessed to now be part of the Jeep community and a sincere "thank you" to a complete stranger!
