Back in the game
Howdy, Its been about 10 years since I last owned a Cherokee that I had for a short time in college. I just purchased another one for some fun light duty off-roading/camping with my sons. Ive been lurking for awhile and reading up on as much as I can. Looking forward to getting out and having some fun, but I need to make it a little more reliable before I venture out too far.
1990 Cherokee Limited stock - clean slate!
But apparently the jeep previously sat for awhile and needs some TLC:
1. Battery - dead, not sure its revive able.
2. Serpentine belt is cracked
3. Cooling system hoses, 3 seem to have bulges that probably should be replaced. Tempted to go to an open system, but almost seems more trouble than its worth.
4. Motor mounts look like they could be refreshed.
5. Trans mount probably should be refreshed at the same time
6. Rear main seal might need replacement, good bit of oil dripping off the pan. Need to research this more.
7. Brake rotors are warped and probably could use new pads - thinking I'll just by stock unless upgrading is as cheap and provide better braking. Bendix ABS system was just removed and replaced with a standard '95 XJ master and booster.
8. Tires - all are cracked with flat spots, just need a new set.
9. Suspension - probably time to replace some bushings.
I think suspension/tires will all get upgraded together. I'm looking for a lift but haven't settled on a specific one yet. I don't want to have to regear and upgrade the dana 35 yet. So I think that limits my tire size to 31s and still have decent acceleration? I'd like a long arm for a nice smooth ride, but long arms seem to be a lot more $$ and also higher skill for installation. For now I'll just keep reading reviews and watching youtube.
