Default Another new guy looking a 1996 XJ

I owned a couple back in the late 80's and and another in the late 90's then it it was on to other interests. Sailing, land lording, endurance motorcycling, over landing, hunting and glamping. Sold all my 4Runner stuff and bought F150 4x4 to haul my TT around. Problem is, I miss having something small I run easy trails and Forrest Service roads here in southern Appalachia.

I have forgotten all I ever knew about XJ's so I need some pointers to what to look for. I have my eye on a bone stock and appears to be an unmolested 1996 XJ with 170K on the clock. Owner says it has locker but I know better but from the pictures I can see fog lights and I think tow hooks. I am thinking it did come with some sort off road package back in the day. I asked about rust and the owner said he believed it was forestry model and came with Line X or similar type coating stock from the factory.

I there anything else I should see to id this model and more importantly, anything to look out for?

TIA
Mike

Hi Mike! Welcome to CF. I don't know anything specific about a supposed forestry model but here's a great primer for you to consider and maybe help you in your search:
