2001 2.5td Orvis new owner in UK
I've a couple of previous posts when I was looking get my hands on an XJ but thought I'd make a formal introduction here now that I'm an owner.
I've loved the XJ shape and wanted one for years. I remember seeing one as a kid in the Goonies (driving along the beach at the end) and since then have loved them. I've been living and working in New Zealand for the last year and coming back to the UK I'd need transport to get me to work and back so there was no other car for me to go for. I decided on the 2.5 diesel that we get over here rather than the 4.0 petrol because of the fuel economy advantage. Fuel in the UK is very expensive! (~us$9/gallon)
I'd need one right away so decided to take a gamble and blind buy one from eBay before I left NZ so I could pick it up as soon as I got back. I saw this and took the plunge.
It's a 2.5td with Orvis trim with 96000 miles on the clock. Completely rust free and a full years MOT. Since picking it up I've clocked about 1000 miles, trouble free with the exception of a horn issue (ill start a thread in tech for this) averaging around 34mpg (mainly motorway).
I'm a complete novice when it comes to cars in general so you'll likely be seeing a lot of me around here (please treat me like an idiot. In this field I am, but very keen to learn. And excuse my stupidity). Despite any me mechanical skills or knowledge I'm determined to do all services, mods and repairs myself as much for a learning exercise as the financial benefits. My housemate tinkers with land rovers so I've a bit of a leg up there.
Initial plans are to replace the speakers as the current ones are shot, tint the rear windows, offroad lights and a modest lift in the spring/summer.
I look forward to learning from you and making a positive contribution.
Cheers

I'm in Tunbridge Wells in Kent. I grew up in Camberley in Surrey which isn't too far from Sutton. One of my old housemates is from Sutton too. When did your wife move over there?
