Default 2000 XJ - Illinois

Hello all!
I recently purchased a 2000 Jeep Cherokee Classic. My fiancé and I plan to use it as a weekend toy / camping vehicle.
I would like to do a small 2 or 3" lift but need some recommendations for tire size with the stock 16" wheels. I don't want to have to worry about rubbing or cutting fenders.
Thank you!

welcome!!

May I make a suggestion?

Just drive it for a while before pulling the trigger on a lift. The XJ is very capable in stock form.
Make sure all maintenance is up to date, that brakes are in good shape. Enjoy your new purchase for a bit.

Welcome!

Owner of a 2000 XJ as well.
Seconded on the above - I've gone full fender trim, 3.5" lift and 33's over the years.
But for the regular wheeling and camping trips the factory setup was more than doable.

A 30" A/T will fit with some rubbing if you're really compressing the suspension.
That was my original setup - pictured here:
