Jeep grill keychain! 3D printed

2 Attachment(s)
Fellow Jeep lovers,

I recently started my own small 3D printing company. I make parts for a variety of businesses as well as individuals.

I love my WJ jeep so I figured I would make a simple Jeep keychain! This is made of plastic (similar to Legos) and can come in a variety of colors!

They are currently for sale on Etsy.com, but I would be happy to just deal directly through this forum as well!
http://www.etsy.com/listing/16804578...earch_type=all

I am always looking for new things to design so if you have any Jeep related ideas, please shoot them my way! Check out www.personal3dprints.com for more information.

Item is currently located in New Albany, OH. Shipping is $2

-Alex

EDIT: Just made a new one for the XJ! See picture below. Pricing is the same as above, PM me if your interested, or check it out here:

Would be cool if it wasnt a barbie jeep

zanderman111 11-20-2013 01:36 PM

I would be happy to redesign one to your liking! Please either post or PM me with either a picture or design and I can create one!

I just figured most of the members here would prefer a cherokee grill.
Its for sure a cool product though

:D

Ill make one tonight!

JerrytheJeep 11-20-2013 03:20 PM

What program do you use to design these? I may be interested in something Cherokee related

JerrytheJeep 11-20-2013 03:22 PM

Also what color options do you have? Glow in the dark would be sick!

Thoughts?? Its about 2.5 inches long and lots of places to put a key ring through.

Big David 11-20-2013 07:50 PM

Yuck, 4 door. LOL.

Looks good but need to offer a 2 door version too.

Haha okay ill work on it. Im not super excited about the whole shape though. Got any other thoughts?

ILRob 11-20-2013 08:54 PM

How about an xj grill?

stormitecture 11-20-2013 09:23 PM

Brushed metal would be much nicer. Don't you have to get permission from Jeep for using the trademarked design?

Unfortunately I dont have a metal 3d printer....

I designed that keychain myself, and it actually doesnt really look like a jeep. It could theoretically be the front grill of any suv. It doesnt directly match any trademarked logo's of Jeep Motor Corp.

Ill work on an xj grill!

Wish I still had my solidworks! Id send you things to make
Can you do multi-colored? Can you scale them down? Have you tried to do one of the newer body style grills?

Well you can always send me the ideas and we can work together to design something!

I can do a maximum of two colors per object. Yes, I can scale and resize objects. I havent done on of the newer body styles yet but I can work on one if there is interest!

What's the max dimensions your 3D Printer can work with making? It may not be right now, but are you familiar with the Pre-97 XJ instrument light thing, to the left of the gauge cluster where the 4x4, Brake, CEL, and Maintenance Required lights are? I have a re-design for the faceplate I can make in SketchUp and send the file to you. I believe Sketchup files can be imported into SolidWorks. Let me know. Color wouldn't be a big deal as I would eventually get the plastic camo-dipped.

1991Jeep_Man 11-21-2013 06:50 PM

Also how durable is the final product?

Max dimensions are 11.6"x6x6". Im not intimately familiar with the dash component you are talking about but im sure I could help you out! If you could draw it up in sketchup I could definitely import it one way or another and make you your part!

EDIT: also, the finished product is extremely durable. It is just as tough and strong as any other plastic part around your home

PM me if your interested, or contact me at personal3dprints@gmail.com

Anyone else interested in the XJ keychain?

Id like one as a 97+ grill. It's essentially what you already have only surrounded with an extra layer. I'll pm you a pic tomorrow.

How smooth are these? I've always been curious about how well these printers lay the material. From what I can see on your other products these have a bunch of lines on them. I'm wondering what methods I could use to smooth them out without distorting them in any way.

The parts are actually incredibly smooth. I admit, in the picture I posted, there are some very faint horizontal lines below the grille holes, but that was the first one I made. I have fixed those lines, I just havent uploaded a new picture. My printer can make the layers as thin as .1mm, which is pretty darn close to the thickness of a sheet of paper, making them nearly invisible.

PM me a picture and Id be happy to make you one! Depending on the color, the surface will have varying degrees of gloss (black is the most glossy). If you are really looking for a high gloss finish though there are post finishing treatments I can do that make any color shine bright almost as if it was dipped in polyurethane (this also makes the surface extremely smooth).

Payment sent... Thanks

The part I inquired about is maybe 4" wide, 5" long, and mostly 3/32-1/8" thick. I will make a sketchup file and send it to you for a quote. Might take a week or so. Do you have black plastic?

That size would definitely work! I do have black plastic! All the materials I print with though can be sanded and or painted if you desire a special color or surface finish.

Take your time with the file, or if youd like, just get the rough dimensions in there and I can recreate it and with your help, add all the finishing touches.

Anyone else interested in a keychain? All the ones so far have been shipped!

How would you like me to do the headlights? I used the picture you posted to create that one I posted. I just used the circles in the headlights but I can do something different if you would prefer. Just want me to make them boxy like the outline of the whole headlight?

somethingclever 11-23-2013 03:10 PM

I'd like to see it if you could, I've never seen anyone make this brfor so it's hard to say what looks better
