Hey Big David,
Got your kit and works great. Mounted on Dana 44 with calipers towards front.

New project, Can you get the same stuff- backing plates, e brakes, calipers off a '97-'03 Ford Expedition to put on my '98 F150 to convert drum to disc.

I can. It will be in a few weeks unless you are in a hurry to get the parts.

How bad was it converting the 44 over? I'm sure that I'm not the only one who is curious.

That's fine. CobraMarty and I aren't in a hurry to convert it yet. Still too cold. When you go, see if there's a proportioning valve like the Jeeps have. If there is, please snag that too. We can send you the money for it all beforehand if you want. Just PM CobraMarty.

And converting the D44 wasn't too bad. The D44 in my dad's XJ is out of a Comanche with the metric ton package. The 44 uses a rectangular mounting pattern instead of the the trapezoidal that the ZJ uses. Had to drill out two of the holes a little bigger and two a fair amount bigger. Also had to have the center hole bored out so that the D44 axle bearing would fit through. What was also needed was a disc brake specific axle retainer. It looks like the drum one except for the fact that it has a raised portion in the center bore so that the bearing fully seats into the axle tube. This is necessary because the disc backing plates are thicker than the drum ones. I also flipped backing plates left-to-right so that the calipers faced forward. I did it to be different and because supposedly doing it that way directs the force of braking down which theoretically decreases rear end lift under heavy braking.

I'll try and dig up some pics of the conversion. I don't have a build thread on that Jeep, so I didn't take many. But I'm sure I have enough to help explain it. I can post them here if you like.

Hey David,
It would be great to be able to be able to put '97-'03 Expedition rear disc brakes on F150 trucks. We will do it first, take pics and 'how to' and post it on F150online.com and I am sure you will have many F150 customers wanting to do this rear disc conversion. Probably more than the Jeep guys. Nobody is doing this F150 rear disc brake conversion.

I may have to check that site out. Thanks.

Converting the 44 doesn't sound too bad.
