Default 2000 XJ Classic: FS at $7K : $34K Parts Installed

Greetings mere XJ Mortals. Long time no see. I'm here parting ways with my old project vehicle. I'm from Florida but I travel all over the US for work. I left it at the TN/VA state line in August last year when I was working weekends (as usual) and didn't have the time or interest to keep whac'a'mole'ing problems with it. I've had an XJ since 2007, this one in particular received parts from that one in 2012 when I bought it.

EDIT: Anyone who buys I will pay to have it shipped to you.

I'm coming to Kentucky, Louisville, for work for April through May, and plan to have it sold before I leave there in May to move on to the next project which might be in Colorado/Utah/Arizona. Whoever bites first wins. It's in Bristol TN at the VA state line at a storage lot. If no one buys it by the time I leave Kentucky I'm cancelling insurance, cancelling storage lot payments, and will let the storage lot do with it as they see fit. You probably won't see or hear of it again on here, maybe Autotrader or they may just have a junk service come pick it up. I don't have the time to deal with it anymore.

The Good:
1. 4.6 Golen Stroker - forged pistons and rods for boosted applications
2. Sprintex Supercharger w/ 49MM Pulley (boosts to 5.5 in Florida summer at WOT, 6.5 winter, boosts at 2-3 PSI on partial throttle acceleration, runs at 1~ PSI cruising at highway speeds)
3. SplitSec 7th Injector Controller - FTC-201 plug'n'play
4. Super 44 35 spline chromoly rear axles with Eaton TruTrac Locker (recently rebuilt by 4WP in Miami after the detroit locker went out). Originally built by RWK Haus in 2013
5. Dana 30 chromoly axles with a grizzly or zip air locker in the front (Viair onboard has never been hooked up, I have it stored at my dad's house in Florida ATM)
6. Mechman 240 Amp alternator,
7. Transmission was replaced by Certified Transmission in 2014 - AW4 Auto,
8. ARB Bull Bar with IPF Rectangle Lights
9. Durango steering box
10. Carr Light bar with another 4 IPF Rect. Lights up top
11. 4.5" Rubicon Express Short Arm Lift
12. 34" tires that are A/T's, there is still a Firestone Destination MT on the rear tire carrier bumper (12 years old never used)
13. Warn rear Bumper with swing out tire carrier
14. JCR Rock Sliders
15. OR-FAB steel rear quarter Panels
16. Safari Snorkel, needs some plastic weld action by the fender-flare area to completely seal it
17. Napier Precision V2 Fender Flares
18. Flexalite Pusher Fans in front grille, Puller fans behind grille.
19. I forget the TB size, I think it's 68mm billet
20. Has replacement shifter linkage that is all steel for the 4WD
21. Rocky Road OTK steering system
22. Big 3 Upgrade
23. Johnson Racing all aluminum power-steering pump
24. Hood Louvers
25. Interior carpet replaced in 2015
26. Mishimoto Oil Catch Can (deleted Leak Det. Pump when installed into that same area)
27. Replaced clear side markers with brand new orange from A1 auto
28. Installed APN headers in early 2022
29. Aftermarket exhaust with Magnaflow, isn't very loud.
30. MOPAR Crank sensor and TPS.

The Bad:
1. Spray painted it with Herculiner truck bed coating in 2019, it has since faded out big time. Needs painted. I think if I would have sprayed over it with a clear coat it would still look like the pictures.
2. One of the transmission solenoids has gone out, in D it will just rev from a stop, but if you put it in 1/2 it will take off as normal. Doesn't lockup the TC either.
3. Needs transmission lines installed before driving, right now one of the hoses is leaking but it's a modified setup that was hanging near the auxiliary fan and got knicked by the fan as the hose settled over time, a 3 ft section of 3/8" hose will get it back on the road, just needs secured away from OEM auxiliary fan.
4. AC Doesn't blow cold, had the full system replaced in 2015 and it worked but then it sat for 3 years. Recharging has no effect, whole system probably needs replaced.

The Ugly:
1. Driver's door leaks rain after it pools up (auto-shop at some point kinked the door, only visible to the trained eye, or whoever drives it during rain): FYI there's probably rain water in the driver's floor board right now.
2. I installed pleather seat covers and pinned them down to the seats with tiny wire-nails, the driver's seat has torn over time, the front and back seats still look good; looks good enough to be a multi-million-view video on youtube. Driver's side nails rusted as well from my copious gym-sweat over time.
3. While swapping transmission solenoids (RA sent me ones for Toyota, didn't work) 3 of the rear pan bolts stripped out and leak because I threaded them as carefully as I could at an angle due to the crossmember being in the way, but after 3x of that they stripped. It was literally right before I was driving to TN for a long work project, and as a stop-gap I put self tappers in. It still drips, and one of the self tappers is tapped in too hard to remove. Will require removing the cross member and using an easy-out/left handed drill bit to fully remove.
4. There is a whine at 20-25Mph. It's either related to transmission solenoids or the rear axle rebuild. 4WP worked on it so it should be solid. I replaced the fluid after the break in period, not sure if I possibly put too much in, I would start there.
5. Transmission Shifter Lever down by the transmission and CPS was braced with a hose and a series of hose clamps to stiffen it up in 2018, I can't remember what the exact problem was but it's worked ever since.
6. There's a dent on the roof from the 4x4 debaucle the ARB cleared for me, and rust started to grow from it. I sanded it out as best I could before I sprayed it with some rust inhibitor and herculined it, but I recall seeing rust colorthe last time I saw it in TN.

FYI:
1. Replaced the wiring harness at the rear of the engine for the TPS and transmission connectors. Water got into it and corroded pins so badly over time they broke off. After the swap it's been fine and clean since.
2. The rear of the hood is lifted with fender washers to allow for heat relief
3. Every oil change I used Shell Rotella 10W30 in recent years, plus added in 1 bottle of zinc additive and half a bottle of BestLine. Oil changes have been over and above.
4. I had the head rebuilt in 2018 - my machinist discovered some non-ideal parameters Golen did that I expressly asked them not to do. The installed 140~lb valve springs designed for racing when I asked for OEM. OEM is 95Lbs, hence the reason rebuilt strokes are notorious for cam-wipes (which is exactly what it was being rebuilt for). We have the OEM springs in there now so as long as you use a properly zinc'ed oil like Shell Rotella it should last 300K like these engines used to before the EPA got their dirty hands on the ZDDP content in oils in 2005.
5. Slight divot in the passenger side ARB bar in front of the headlamp. It's not obvious. I killed a 4x4 wooden beam after I fell asleep on a long drive. That ARB was worth every penny and then some.
6. Passenger side mirror replaced (4x4 beam took it out). Junk yard replacement of same color. It's in better state than the driver original, it vibrates whereas the passenger old replacement doesn't.
7. IAC is JB welded in place since 2018 as I got tired of having failures. It works perfect, and strangely enough with the IAC completely removed the idle didn't change a bit, but driveability wasn't possible due to lack of vacuum cuaing the 7th injector to spray and bog down engine at decel.
8. Tires pictured are Fire. Destin. M/T's, currently has Nitto A/T's with about 10K miles on them or less.

Since it's sat for so long I would recommend towing/trailering it unless you live somewhere nearby.

Well, she looks like fun. A bit overbuilt for my tastes. The transmission stuff, etc. are probably, hopefully, not over 3 grand.
I don't know.
Anyway, what if I offered you around a grand before you junk it?
I'm in northern IL.
thx
Bill
