Ive looked everywhere and have yet to find anyone who has any info on installing a ZJ (Grand Cherokee) sway bar on an XJ.. FYI.. It is not a bolt on upgrade.. The ZJ bar has about an inch wider spacing on the mounting bolts and about 3 inches longer so it will contact your springs. I also have just installed a 3" lift that came with drop mounts for the XJ but of course wont do any good. Does anyone know of a place that sells the adapters with drop or just adapters in general. Not huge deal but wish there had been info on this when I decided to switch out bars. Im getting ready to make some myself but was hopeful if nothing else to eliminate the stress on the next person attempting the swap..

Why are you making the swap to a ZJ bar, what is the benefit?

I have seen the WJ (1999-2004 Grand Cherokee) front sway bar mounted on an XJ maybe you have one from a WJ and not a ZJ. The WJ one will mount to stock location, but it will mount using the farthest hole on the frame for the front of the sway bar mounting bracket. Then a hole must be drilled and bolt and nut used for the second hole on the bracket.

Here is the write up I found for the WJ sway bar install https://www.cherokeeforum.com/f38/je...waybar-204888/

here is the one for the V8 ZJ bar on a MJ but the XJ would be the same

The reason for a Sway bar is for a daily driver that sees trail time.. Having thousands of dollars worth of equipment added to your jeep doesnt do much good if you roll it on the way to the trail..

We all know this. But why go through the trouble of rigging something up when there are plenty of strong aftermarket sway bars that fit without modification?

Cost first and foremost.. Picked it up at a salvage yard for 15$, Im sure it every bit as good as aftermarket parts.. My Sway got bent all to he11 when it contacted a sapling stump I didnt notice it till mid lift kit and I knew the salvage yard had a few Jeeps. I need my jeep up ASAP so I looked it up on the budge yard build thread..

You do know you can drive without a sway bar? Just saying since you stated you need your jeep up ASAP. Also, ASAP would have been getting another XJ sway bar which would have bolted right up and you would be on the road again.

I've been driving without a sway bar for years and guess what? It's never rolled on my way to the trail. I'm thinking it's because I modify my driving but hey, what do I know...

Some cars and trucks years ago never even came with a sway bar on them.

Why is everybody hating on sway bars? Not sure about you guys but I like my Jeep rubber side down.

You don't need a sway bar to stay rubber side down unless you drive like an idiot.

I live in deer country and you never know when you may have to swerve to miss one.. Cars years ago had a solid frame, not a unibody.... Makes a little difference.. Either way, it is in and all is well, thanks for you help..
