XJ D44 VS. FSJ Waggy D44 VS. Ford 9"
well im trying to pick out new axles for my xj. i am already getting a front Waggy D44 to run but now im split on what to run for the rear between 3 different axles, XJ D44, Waggy D44 (that matches the front), and a Ford 9".
now i already paid $600 for some forged 1 piece aluminum beadlocks and i really dont want to let them go, but they have a 5x5 bolt pattern. now here are some reasons and some problems with these axles: XJ D44- i just bought one thinking it was the way i was going. 5x4.5 bolt pattern pretty much bolt on would have to change the front from 6x5.5 to 5x5.5 FSJ D44- would match the front bolt pattern same with as the front can get both axles cheaper for what i paid for the XJ d44 would have to get rid of my beadlocks Ford 9"- would get cheap from Nascar race teams 35 spline shafts full floater disc brakes would eventually run the True HI9 chance to make it a 4 link rear can match 5x5 bolt pattern would have to change front bolt pattern probably the most expensive now no matter what axle i choose im going to get a spool and 4.56 gears anyone have any opinions? |
If you are looking for front and rear.. I would do the FSJ waggy axles. The 9" is a great axle, but it leaves you still needing a front axle. The xjd44 is an awesome axle, but still leaves you with a d30 front.. and having to do something with it to equal the strength of the rear.

He asked what size tires you were going to run. If you are going to run 225/75 r15s anything will work, if you want to run 39.5s you'll have to go big. Maybe if you want people to help you should lose the attitude. |
If you run the waggy front get a rodeo 44 rear to match. It comes with disc and usually either 4.10s or 4.30 gears so you wouldn't need a new carrier and could run a mini spool and save a few bucks. The only way I see you being able to run those wheels in the front is with your D30 and adapters or a JK axle. The JK D30 is very prone to the C's breaking off and the D44 is actually a real 44 unlike the TJ version but they go for big bucks. The 44 and 9" rear can be run with pretty much any bolt pattern if you use aftermarket shafts.

Your stock D/30 and the 27 spline C/8.25 will handle the 32s. I'm running 35s on a 27 spline C/8.25 that I installed alloy 29 spline shafts, a Detroit and 4.88 gears in, in the front I stayed with the D/30 did 30 spline alloy shafts and joints, an Eaton E-locker, and 4.88s with inter tube sleeves. Installed Riddler diff covers and so far it works great.
Unless you have lots of cash, I would go with the least expensive and easiest upgrade. The D/44s should work fine, the Ford 9 inch is a tough axle that can be built super strong. |
i know that the stock axles can handle 35s no problem, its just that i want better axles. for the front its going to get a TNT truss, 4.56 gears and be left open for a little while until i get an OX locker. i am kinda leaning towards the 9in for the rear but im still undecided

Unless you can set up the diffs yourself I would hold up on the gear change until you could get the locker you want that way you don't have to pay twice to set up the diff.

its not worth doing the swap if only run 35s
