which would you do???

Uncle Sam has repayed the loan I gave him! so here is where the question begins. I have enough money in my budget to lift my 99 XJ and buy wheels & tires... or a locker, but not both. so what would you get and why did you choose that. a quick run down on my XJ...
stock suspension.
stock wheels.
30X9.50 15 AT's with about 40% tread remaining.

Why not get a 3'' inch lift, 31's and a lunch box locker for the rear axle? Actually, how much do you want to lift it? Can you use your stock tires and wheels a little longer? Have you tried to find any of the parts used in the for sale section?

Id say get your lift and tires for now, no use really of getting lockers on a stock xj anyways due to ud wouldnt really put urself in asituation to need them at stock height but these are just my thoughts and later down the road u can pick up lockers

tires are the best upgrade you can do to a fourwheel drive in my opinion do the tires and then save up and get a locker later on

brookhart63 02-09-2012 11:21 PM

Lockers. You will get farther than any lifted guy open with 2 lockers.

Lift tires locker no wheels

slk88cherokee 02-09-2012 11:30 PM

Lift and tires for sure. You might end up changing your mind on the locker of even the rear end and swap in a stronger rear end. With a lift and good tires you will be able to go a lot of places. Just my thoughts. I did lift and tires 13 years ago and still haven't done lockers and go pretty much everywhere my locked buddies do.

Clearance? The reason why you want lift is ground clearance and suspension articulation. With lockers the only thing you need to worry about is ground clearance. I am open at both ends and I wish I would have locked before I went to 4.5. If your sticking with the same axles get a locker.

Erkmed XJ 02-09-2012 11:57 PM

I take that back but she still got hung up on her rear axle which wouldnt be a problem in the beggining im not saying dont get lockers just id get the lift and tires beforehad
